Meteorologists and Radar Internship

Job announcements were posted on 23 February 2024 for Meteorologist and Radar internships to work on the 2024 North Dakota Cloud Modification Project. Students interested in applying are required to use the www.nd.gov/omb/ website. One announcement is for student internships and the other requires the completion of an undergraduate degree by May 29th.  The announcements will also be posted on the AMS and NWA websites for reference. The application deadline for your students or anyone interested is March 25th.

Current Schedule - Pilot Internship

   The announcement currently does not list location. However, student interns will be assigned to Bowman, Watford City (King Air), Williston or Stanley and will rotate through Watford City for King Air experience.

Sunday, March 17 - Close of Application

Tuesday, March 24 - Interviews 8:10 - 3:30 (Break 11-12:30): Clifford Hall 410 Call Kelli Schroeder (701-328-2789) to setup time.

Before Project Starts


Proof of Certifications
Show WMI your current certifications in Fargo when they test you for high altitude / high performance endorsements. They will contact you for scheduling in May.
Currency
To log PIC time*: Be prepared to get your multi-engine (ME) DAY/NIGHT currency (3 landings day and night within the last 90 days before you can carry passengers) before June 1 on your own time and expense.
Instrument currency (6 approaches etc. within the last 6 months): Be prepared to get this on your own time and expense so that you can log approaches or PIC time in instrument conditions.
Medical
You will be flying commercial aircraft and therefore will need at least a 2nd class medical at your expense.
 
Ground School
Ground School is scheduled for May 28 (7pm social) through about 10am on May 31, 2024, in Bismarck.
 
Hotel rooms will be paid by ARB for the nights of May 28-30 with checkout scheduled for the morning of May 31. Single rooms will be reserved. Contact Kelli or Dan if you have a specific room request. Room assignments must be into the hotel a few weeks early.
 
Social begins at 7pm on May 28. Be prepared to have your photo taken for staff posters and the WMI Final Report.
 
We do not pay mileage to Ground School and back to GFK or to your field site.  You are compensated for meals while in travel status for Ground School, starting May 28 and ending May 31. You will be given a travel reimbursement sheet to sign for reimbursement.
